While silicone implants continue to lead the way in breast implants of choice around the world, global trends indicate that in many countries fat transfer breast augmentation has significantly overtook implants in popularity.
Many clients prefer to use their own fat rather than a silicone or saline implant as it provides natural looking breast. Although fat grafting will never replace implants, it is great alternative for those who want a small with natural enhancement of the breast. It is considered to have more natural feel than silicone and saline solutions which are traditionally used to fill the implants.
The fat transfer procedure is done in 3 STEPS:
- Liposuction—the fat can be taken out through means of a liposuction from any part of the body having a sufficient amount of fat. Manual liposuction is done to obtain the fat grafts. It is a gentle way to “harvest” the fatty tissue in an attempt to avoid damage to the cells within the fat graft.
- Filtration—The fat obtained is filtered to separate blood supernatants, oil and fluid from the fat cells. A concentrated fat sample which consist of fat cells, stem cells and a variety of growth factors will be obtained.
- Fat Injection— The fat is gently injected in different layers at different levels underneath the skin and in the deeper soft tissues. It is important to perform the lipofilling procedure correctly to have a maximum chance of survival. About 70% of the fat stays forever. Therefore, a little overcorrection is done during the operation.
A very fine cannula is needed to perform the treatment. Therefore, scarring is minimal and well hidden. Since the fat comes from the client’s own body, allergies are less likely to occur. High rejection rate and infections are also very low. However, the downsides to this type of procedure are that the desired results are not guaranteed. It’s difficult to predict exact sizes or measurements. It is not permanent upon completion of the procedure. The fat will be absorbed back into the body about half of the repurposed fat within six months of surgery. Only about 50% of the fat stays in the breasts.
This procedure is great for anyone looking to slightly increase their breast size, or for those who already have implants but would like more added volume and contour. You are not only adding a volume on your breast, but you are also slimming down other areas of your body!
